L’église St-Grégoire de Ribeauvillé a commandé la réalisation d’un retable dans la continuité des douze Apôtres ornant la nef depuis 2007. La chapelle étant dédiée à Marie, le sujet central est une pietà. A l’image de ce thème, la vie de Marie est marquée par une soumission à des projets qui la dépassent, une impuissance à dominer sa vie et finalement la douleur de voir le fils aîné lui échapper, la rejeter, puis mourir humilié. La composition du retable a été étudiée afin d’offrir un cadrage frappant sur le corps du Christ dénudé dès l’entrée de l’église.

The church of Saint Grégoire de Ribeauvillé ordered an altarpiece as a continuation to the twelve apostles decorating the nave since 2007. The chapel, dedicated to Mary, has the Pietàas a central piece. As a representation of this theme, the life of Mary is marked by submissions to projects that surpass her, an incapacity to take control of her life and finally the pain of seeing her son pull away from her, reject her and die humiliated. The composition of this altarpiece has been studied to offer shocking framing on the stripped body of the Christ from the entrance of the church.
